Planning For Retirement

Laura & Steve

Laura (age 58) & Steve (age 60) are getting serious about retiring while they are healthy to travel, spend time with family, & go hiking in their favorite national parks. They aren’t sure if they’ve saved enough to support their ideal lifestyle and are worried about building a reliable income from their investments that can weather volatile markets.

Retired With Questions

Tim & Sara

Tim (age 67) & Sara (age 68) retired last year. They’ve started volunteering for a local charity and joined their neighborhood pickleball league. They haven’t started their Social Security benefits because they aren’t sure how it might impact their taxes. They wonder if they are handling their retirement investments properly to minimize taxes and maximize their income.

Your Financial Plan, Built Step By Step

Step 1

Get Organized

If we’ve decided to partner together, our first planning meeting will take a deeper dive into your financial life.
We do this by first getting a clear understanding of where you are today by building your financial profile and
balance sheet as well as prioritizing your major goals and dreams.

Step 2

Align - Spending & Saving

Next, we will review your spending and determine how much you should be saving to reach your goals and retirement needs. We will also focus on eliminating debt as quickly as possible and automating your spending
and saving so that your goals come to life with ease.

Step 3

Focus - Investments & Taxes

We then take a look at how your money is growing. The goal is to simplify and focus your investments to match your goals. During this meeting, we also evaluate potential tax savings and simplify your current tax strategy.

Step 4

Protect - Insurances & Estate Plan

During our last onboarding meeting, we ensure you are protected when life goes differently than planned.
We will review your life, long-term care, disability, property and casualty insurances and recommend any
needed changes. We also discuss your estate wishes and either update or build them so that your loved ones
are protected.

Step 5

Ongoing Planning Meetings

We will implement the remaining financial planning recommendations together over time and meet twice per year to ensure that we are making progress and updating your plan as your life evolves. In addition, ongoing planning often means partnering with local attorneys and CPAs where needed to form a strong financial team to support your dreams and goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a wealth manager and a financial advisor?

That’s a great question, and the terminology can be confusing. Think of a financial advisor as a generalist investment professional who will occasionally help you with other planning related questions. A wealth manager, however, acts as the quarterback for your retirement plan and your entire financial life. Our wealth management service offers the powerful combination of ongoing financial planning and professional investment management. For our clients in Southwestern Ohio, this means we're constantly monitoring your financial goals and making sure all your assets are working together. Let us handle the heavy lifting, so you can enjoy a confident retirement!

At what net worth do I need a wealth manager?

The answer to this question is less about a specific number and more about the complexity of your financial life. We find that the families who benefit most from our wealth management service have at least $750,000 to invest. At this point in your financial life, you're likely thinking about tax-efficient withdrawals and required minimum distributions (RMDs), coordinating with your estate plan attorney, and ensuring your retirement plan is rock solid. This stage of life is not just about accumulating money anymore, but about making sure that your wealth is managed effectively and strategically. Working with a wealth manager can be extremely helpful if you're over 50 and want a defined process to protect your life's savings in retirement.

How much does it cost to hire a wealth manager?

As a fee-only wealth management firm, our pricing is transparent and client-friendly. We are legally bound to never have hidden commissions or sales charges. For our wealth management services, we charge a simple asset-based fee, which means it’s a percentage of the money we manage for you. This fee covers everything, including ongoing financial planning and professional investment management, so there are no separate fees to worry about. You can find our full fee schedule published directly on this services page.

How do I choose a trusted wealth manager near Dayton?

Choosing a wealth manager to help you with your retirement and life savings is a big decision! It's incredibly important to find a firm that you can trust with your wealth. Here are a few things that we strongly recommend looking for:

  • A Fiduciary Standard: Look for a true fiduciary financial advisor. This means they are legally and ethically obligated to act in your best interest. Financial Advisors associated with organizations like: NAPFA, The CFP® Board, and the XY Planning Network are required to be fiduciaries of the highest standard.
  • A Defined Process: Do they have a clear, step-by-step defined process? A good wealth manager will walk you through exactly how they approach financial planning, from discovery to implementation and ongoing support.
  • Local Roots and Expertise: The right wealth manager should understand the financial goals, lifestyle costs, and values of families here in Southwestern Ohio. Even though Stage Ready Financial Planning operates virtually, our specialty is serving the Dayton area, which allows us to have a deep understanding of what it means to be apart of our local community.
  • Fee Transparency: A trusted wealth manager should be completely upfront about their fees and how they get paid.
Do you offer wealth management services in Centerville, Kettering, and Beavercreek?

Yes, absolutely! As a virtual wealth management and financial planning firm, we specialize in serving retirement savers and families throughout the greater Dayton and Southwestern Ohio area. This includes communities like Centerville, Kettering, Beavercreek, Oakwood, Springboro, and Fairborn, to name a few. The benefit of being virtual is that we can work with you no matter where you are in the region, or even if life moves you to a new location in retirement. Our goal is to be your go-to wealth management resource in the region, whether you are planning for or are currently in retirement.

What wealth management services do you provide for Southwestern Ohio clients?

Our wealth management service takes a hands on and comprehensive approach to your financial life. You can read a full listing of what's included above on this service page. For our Southwestern Ohio clients close to or in retirement, we put special focus on a few key areas to ensure all your assets are aligned with your financial goals:

  • Retirement Planning: We help you answer the big questions like, "Can I retire comfortably?" and "How much money can I spend safely without running out of money?" Our job is to help you create a sustainable retirement plan that allows you to live the life you've imagined.
  • Investment Management: We professionally build and manage a personalized investment portfolio for you that is aligned with your financial plan and risk tolerance. We'll make sure your investments are set up correctly for your stage of life.
  • Tax-Efficient Strategies: We work with you and your tax advisor to find smart ways to potentially reduce your lifetime tax burden.
  • Risk Management: We will continuously review your insurances and potential risks to make sure your financial plan is protected from the unexpected.
  • Estate & Legacy Planning: We help coordinate with your estate planning attorney to ensure your wishes are carried out and your loved ones are protected when you're no longer here.
Can a wealth manager help with retirement planning?

Definitely! Retirement planning is one of the most important parts of wealth management services. In fact, it's the foundation of everything we do. Our clients are often focused on the question, "How can I retire comfortably and successfully?" and our entire process is built to help them answer that with confidence. We’ll work with you to create a detailed retirement plan that covers everything from your cash flow needs to your investment and tax strategies. A good wealth manager doesn't just manage your investments, they help you navigate your entire retirement.

How do Dayton fiduciary financial advisors work?

As a Dayton fiduciary financial advisor, our sole commitment is to you, our client. This is more than just a title or promise, it's a legal and ethical responsibility. It means we are legally required to always act in your best interest when providing you financial planning advice and investment management. Our work follows a defined process that puts your financial goals front and center. We start by getting to know you, your family, your values, and your vision for retirement. From there, we work to build you a customized retirement plan and investment strategy. We will collaboratively implement your plan, and then provide ongoing support to keep your plan on track. It’s a partnership built on trust, transparency, and the goal of helping you achieve a successful retirement.
